# How to Subtitle/Caption a Video
Subtitles allow viewers to watch your video without audio and still understand what is happening in the video. These videos keep viewers engaged with your post. It also increases reach and engagement on your videos using subtitles.
Adding subtitles/captions to your videos has never been easier. All you need to do is simply go to your projects and select the particular video that you want to add subtitles to.
Our subtitle option supports about 30 languages, English, Spanish, French, Chinese, Italian, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Arabic, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Romanian, Polish, Irish, Dutch, Hebrew, Javanese, Indonesian, Greek, Filipino, Czech, Thai, Urdu, Malay, Persian, Finnish, Turkish, Danish, Swedish.
### Automatic Subtitle Generation
Adilo can generate your subtitles for you automatically. Click on customize; then, you will see the subtitle option as seen in this image.
Clicking on the generate subtitle option will bring out a pop-up where you can select your preferred subtitle language. You can go through the generated subtitles to ensure that it is error-free.
You can edit any errors that you find in the subtitles.
Note: Ensure that the language you are selecting corresponds to the one spoken in the video. Otherwise, it won’t work. It’ll say, “We are not able to generate subtitles because of your audio profile. Please, upload your own subtitles.”
### Manual Subtitle Upload
Manual subtitling is the option to upload your subtitles.
When you click on “upload subtitles,” you will see the option to select the language in which your SRT file would appear in. Ensure that you are uploading an SRT file, or else the process will not be successful. This file format usually contains sequential subtitles, start and end timestamps, and subtitle text.
After the process, click the “save” option to save the file.
### Translating Subtitles
You have to subtitle the video to the original language before you can translate it into a different language.
The translation option also allows you to select from a list of languages. When you click on the “add language” option, you will see the list of languages so that you can choose your preferred one.
Note: After every action, remember to click the “save” option for the changes to be effected. Also, ensure that the “subtitle” option is enabled in “controls”; otherwise, the subtitles won’t show.
### Editing Subtitles and Translations
After you have generated or uploaded your subtitles, you might want to go through them to ensure no errors.
Click on the edit option, and it will redirect you to a page where you have your subtitle text with timestamps. After editing, ensure that you save changes.
When all of these have been done, the subtitles appear on your video player at the bottom when you play your video.
